Creating a quote

You use quotes to describe a service or list products you propose to sell to a customer or prospective customer. Included in the quote are the estimated costs for the services or products.  WorkingPoint makes it easy to send the quote to your customer, who then decides whether or not to accept the quote.  Quotes are also referred to as estimates, bids, or proposals.

To create a new quote:

  1. Click the Invoices tab to open the Invoices List.

  2. Click the New Quote button in the sidebar.

  1. In the Customer field, start typing a customer name. As soon as you see the customer in the menu, click it. Or, click  to add a customer on the fly.

  1. In the Document Information section, enter the date and the Customer PO number, if any.

  2. (Optional) Enter the Expected Invoice Date. This is the date you think the customer will accept the quote and you will convert it into an invoice. WorkingPoint uses this date in the Sales Pipeline report so you can see forecast upcoming sales.

  3. Check the “Include Shipping Information” checkbox if you want to enter shipping information, including shipping address, estimated shipping charges, proposed shipping carrier, and other shipping details.

  4. In the line item section, start typing the product or service you are quoting for the customer. Or, click to add a new item on the fly.

  5. Press Tab. WorkingPoint enters the price and unit for you based on what you entered when you set the item up. But you can change the price if you need to.

  6. In the Quantity column, enter the number of the items to be sold.

  7. Press Tab. WorkingPoint calculates the total and applies the appropriate tax if the item is taxable. But you can change the taxable status and rate if you need to.

  8. Continue adding items as needed.  Click Add Line if you need more space.

  9. (Optional) To add a discount, choose whether the discount is a percentage or a dollar amount. Then enter the amount.

  10. (Optional) Enter any notes for the customer. For example, you might want to say something like “We look forward to working with you.”

  11. (Optional) WorkingPoint pre-fills the terms and conditions, if you have set up your Settings to do so. But you can override it if you need to.

  12. (Optional) Enter any other notes for yourself or your employees. The customer won’t see these notes.

  13. Click Save Quote.
